Another perfect autumn retreat at Camp Taylor! Our site was large and wooded and it was awesome at night to hear the howling of the wolves in the Preserve while sitting at the site roasting marshmallows and hearing the trickle of the creek behind us. This is what camping is all about! We spent 4 days here and could have stayed more.
We had fun here. The site we originally booked was too small to fit our camper and truck so they gave us a much bigger site along the tree line. We had lots of room to spread out, but we had to use all our leveling blocks. There are a lot of seasonals but most of them were nice and well maintained. Some of the seasonal sites had breath taking views; I can see why people want to stay there all summer. The animals were well kept and they had lots to do in the rec hall. The staff was friendly as well.
We really didn't spend a lot of time in the campground - we mainly used it as a "home base" to go to 6 Flags Great Adventure. However, the time we spent there was nice. The site we had used to be a seasonal site. It was shaded, and we had lots of room to spread out. The only problem we had were the hook ups. The sewage hook up was at one end, and the electric and water was at the other. That and the trees made it difficult to get the camper just right so our hook ups could reach plus be able to open our awning. Other than that, the CG was quiet, the bathrooms were older but clean, and the pool was nice. It was a great "home base." And oh yeah, the guy who runs everything was a bit cranky, but he is running everything alone, so I guess I would be cranky too! We would stay here again.
This campground had it all. It had a water park up front, a fun miniature golf course which was well kept, a huge store with arcade games plus a large store within the campground that had everything you could need or want plus more. There were a few livestock penned up for the rodeo and a western town in the back which had daily shows. The sites were a good size but not much on privacy. There were beautiful pine trees all over that were kept neatly trimmed which gave you great shade. Most sites had a nice view of the bay if you didn't want actual bay front. We are definitely returning here when it's warmer to enjoy the water park and the pools.
This Campground was real nice. We stayed in the newer section in the back and were glad we did. The front lower part seemed a bit cramped. The back has 2 sides that are boarded by Amish fields; we even had cows staring at us from behind a fence! The restroom were immaculate. There wasn't much to do at the campground but it's a great home base for shopping and experiencing the rich culture of Lancaster. We would return here the next time we venture that way.
We absolutely loved this place! The trails were endless and the Wolf Preserve was amazing! The campground is clean and quiet. We had a terrific site that had a small creek going through it. At night, we heard the crackling of the camp fire and the babbling of the brook. It was so peaceful. It is also very dark at night, so bring lots of flashlights. Fall is a great time to go because of the view of the changing leaves through out the mountains. We are making Camp Taylor an annual fall retreat!
Out of all the places we've camped in, this was the most disappointing. The campground is mostly seasonal and of those, most of them are dilapidated and falling into the ground. One trailer behind ours was vacant with the door open and hanging off its hinges. What an eye sore! If your rig is bigger than 20 foot, it's best to park on the field, which was a lot like camping in a parking lot but on grass. The bright spot was the Sundae Barn which gave you large ice cream sundaes and inexpensive treats. However, we will never camp here again.
This campground has its good points and bad points. The good points are that the sites are a nice size and level and we had more privacy here than other campgrounds. The bad points are it's a bit run down and the people who run it are a bit cranky. Plus the store is trying to make more of a profit than they should for the items they sell. We probably wouldn't go back there unless we were accompanied with friends who wanted to stay there.
We had a real nice site at the end of a row, which had more room to "stretch" out in. The draw back was the sewer hook up was too far away and we couldn't back up the trailer any further because there was a tree in the way. Other than that, the pools were nice, the people were friendly and the campground clean. We will definitely stay there again.
This past weekend was our maiden voyage for the new camper. Most of the campground was seasonal, but there were a some transient spots available. We stayed in an area that was stoned all around with a cement pad and a fire ring for each site. It was tight getting the trailer in, but after a few tries, we made it. The campground had lots to do. The best was the swimming lake. Awesome! The people were friendly, the store was packed with all kinds of wonderful things that were not overly priced, there was so much to do! We will definitely be back!
